The Presidency of the European Union opening ceremony will be broadcast live on YouTube

The Lithuanian Presidency opening ceremony that takes place today will be broadcast live by Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT), the official Presidency website www.eu2013.lt and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/EU2013LT. Free live translation on YouTube will be provided by Google.

"We are pleased that the event celebrating the Presidency of the EU Council will be joined by Google, one of the largest and most influential IT companies in the world, giving a free live broadcast on YouTube - the most popular global video sharing site," said Julius Pranevičius, Head of the Presidency of the EU Council Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the first Lithuanian Ministry to cooperate with Google. It is also the first time that YouTube will cover the live broadcast of such a high profile event from Lithuania. At 4:00 PM, in the Grand Courtyard of Vilnius University, the event will commence with the participation of the highest EU officials: José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission President, and members of the European Commission, Herman Van Rompuy, the European Council President, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuanian Parliament and Government members, members of the European Parliament from Lithuania, and other guests.

At the opening ceremony, The Interplay composition by composer Kipras Mašanauskas will be performed by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Modestas Pitrėnas and musicians from all EU member states. The Kaunas State Choir and M. K. Čiurlionis Art School mixed choir of children will also perform.

The live broadcast of the event will begin at 15:45 local time, and after the event will be uploaded to the official Presidency account at YouTube (youtube.com/EU2013LT).
