On 25–26 November, the 2013 SME Assembly will be organised by the Ministry of Economy of Lithuania and the European Commission. During the Assembly, the main focus will be directed towards the issues related to SME access to finance, improvement of business environment, responsible business, green economy, impact by digital technologies, smart regulation and reduction of administrative burdens on business.

‘It is necessary to identify the problems faced by businesses in Europe and address them comprehensively. Small and medium-sized business in Europe, like in Lithuania, is very important for the economy of the region. Inquiries of SMEs suggest that attracting consumers is the main problem faced by companies. We must therefore ensure smooth functioning of the EU Single Market and enhancement of enterprise competitiveness. This may be achieved through the creation of a business-friendly environment which could enable business establishment and development. I welcome the discussions initiated under this Assembly as well as the Assembly’s input in addressing issues relevant to business,’ Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas said.

This event to be held under the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU will convene representatives of SMEs, business organizations, European, national and regional authorities and academic community.

On 26 November, at 9.30 a.m., a press conference will take place aimed to introduce the most important issues of the 2013 SME Assembly.

During the SME Assembly, the European Enterprise Promotion Awards Ceremony will take place aimed to reward outstanding business and entrepreneurship initiatives in Europe and to broaden the definition of business as well as promote the development of business-friendly policies.

This year, the ‘Development and Introduction in Schools of Lithuania of the Entrepreneurship Promotion Methods’ initiative by the public body SMK University of Applied Social Sciences and the ‘Entrepreneurship Promotion Fund’ initiative by UAB Investicijų ir verslo garantijos (INVEGA) have been recognised the winners in the selection procedure at national level. The above initiatives are nominees under the European Enterprise Promotion Awards.

The European Enterprise Promotion Awards have been held by the European Commission since 2005.
