On 21 October, the official presentation of the exhibition the Travel'AIR of the art photographer Mindaugas Kavaliauskas took place at the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) in Brussels with participation of the Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Arijandas Šliupas, Director General of EUROCONTROL Frank Brenner, author of the exhibition and other officials. The exhibition was initiated by EUROCONTROL for the occasion of Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council.

In the photographs exhibited for the first time Mindaugas Kavaliauskas presents unexpected trivial stories of air passengers and airports with a slight shade of irony. The author focuses his gaze on the prosaic details – tired faces of passengers, food leftovers, napping personnel, queues at the security checks, young people looking for internet connection at the airport – and creates eloquent metaphors.

According to the officer of EUROCONTROL who initiated the exhibition, the art collector Francois Huet, impregnated by Lithuanian culture, the images that Mindaugas proposes us combine melancholia and humour, aesthetic and psychology.

At the opening of the exhibition, Director General of EUROCONTROL Frank Brenner said that the artistic language of the photography exposition, which is viewed by professionals employed by the organisation under his supervision and 40 representatives of EUROCONTROL member states arriving for the meetings, reminds them about the purpose of their job they sometimes forget. These are air passengers, men and women, children and elderly, whose travels are part of their life.

The Travel’AIR of Mindaugas Kavaliauskas is the first art exhibition, which has even been organised at the headquarters of EUROCONTROL. Exhibition is open from 4 to 25 October. For this occasion Kaunas publishing house Šviesos Raštas published the book Travel’AIR. Voyages Aériens. Kelionės lėktuvu in the French, English and Lithuanian languages.

This event was partially sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.
