On 15–16 November, at BOZAR - Brussels’ centre for fine arts - as part of the Focus on Lithuania programme dedicated to commemorate the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council, OKT/Vilnius City Theatre will perform Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Koršunovas.

The Lithuanian production of Hamlet was included in BOZAR THEATRE’s 2013–2014 international programme, together with work by the National Theatre in Oslo, the Italian actress Isabella Rossellini, Blitz Theatre Group, a Greek troupe, and other famous and new representatives of European theatre.

According to the compilers of BOZAR THEATRE’s programme, Koršunovas offers a modern and dynamic approach to the famous play as well as exceptionally dramatic acting. He and his troupe are meeting Shakespeare’s challenges and existential questions with a rare intensity and sense of time. It's a Hamlet that has to be.

According to director Koršunovas, playing Hamlet is as impossible as recreating Elsinore. Because it never existed. What is possible is to feel one's present time, open the doors to Elsinore, and seek Hamletian theatre, a theatre which becomes a mousetrap for inner reality.

The worldwide opening night of OKT’s Hamlet took place in September 2008 in Stavanger; the play has been successfully performed at Lithuanian and international theatres. This tour is the OKT/Vilnius City Theatre’s first performance in Brussels. Hamlet is one of the events of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU's cultural programme in Belgium.
