Today, 4 November in the third and final informal trilogue between the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency and European Parliament on the Proposal for a Directive on collective management of copyright and licencing music online an agreement was reached between the co-legislators, which will allow to complete this legislative dossier in the first reading.

Minister of Culture of Lithuania Mr. Šarūnas Birutis noted: “The agreement reached today and the provisions of this Directive address the interests of the rightholders and the needs of the consumers in the EU. Well-balanced regulatory approach will bring more transparency and efficiency for the activities of the collective management organisations. And the improved system of the obtaining multi-territorial licences for authors' rights in musical works will be one of the important factors contributing to the European Single Market for online music services. This will also allow consumers in the EU to enjoy the widest possible access to diverse musical repertoires.”

The Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on collective management of copyright and related rights and multi-territorial licensing of rights in musical works for online uses in the internal market is an important piece of legislation for the realisation of a Digital Single Market in the EU for 2015.
The agreement between the co-legislators at today’s trilogue  is subject to formal endorsement by the Member States in COREPER meeting on the 6 of November.
