On 28 October in Bucharest, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius attended a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Danube Region and welcomed participants of the Second Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. During the events in the capital of Romania, V. Leškevičius said that it was one of priorities for Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council to review macro-regional strategies.

“Lithuania’s EU Presidency has paid due attention to the evaluation of the added value of the two existing macro-regional strategies – the Baltic and Danube. As a result, the Council adopted its conclusions on added value of macro-regional strategies,” the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister said.

Conclusions, inter alia, noted that the EU’s macro-regional strategies had proved their added value by providing a possibility to more effectively implement projects to improve infrastructure, education, science, etc. In this context, Minister V.Leškevičius drew attention to the necessity to reach an agreement on the Multiannual Financial Framework as soon as possible, because the implementation of programmes financed by the EU in 2014-2020 depended on it.

The Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed the participants that the Fourth Annual Forum would take place in Vilnius on 11 and 12 November, during which the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region would be discussed with partners, focusing mainly on environmental protection.
