Linkevičius welcomed the EU decision to open negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement and congratulated Kosovo on progress achieved in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, also in implementing priority reforms and in ensuring the country’s sustainable functioning. The Foreign Minister underlined that the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency would seek to guarantee a smooth process of preparing for the start of negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also stressed that the country had to make further progress in priority areas.

“It is important to continue efforts to strive for sustainable progress in the implementation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue agreements. More attention should be given to the implementation of the adopted strategies and action plans. In the run-up to the upcoming local government elections this autumn, it is important to accelerate the current election reform process,” Linkevičius said.

The Foreign Minister highlighted Lithuania’s attention to the entire Western Balkan region, as well as to the aim to advance cooperation with other countries in the region.

During the visit, Linkevičius also met with Lithuanian citizens, who work in international missions and non-governmental organisations in Kosovo.
