On 3 October 2013, the Competition Council (Konkurencijos taryba, KT) hosts European Competition Day conference in Šarūnas Hotel, Vilnius. During the conference the issues related to the independence of national competition authorities, high pricing in the relevant markets and private actions for antitrust damages are to be discussed by the experts of competition law and economy from the entire EU.

The list of speakers includes Vice President and Commissioner for Competition, Joaquin Almunia, heads of Belgian, French, Netherlands and Swedish competition authorities, a representative from Microsoft Corporation as well as competition law practitioners and academics.

“Business becomes more global than it used to be and it requires broader approach and more coordinated actions of competition authorities. Thus European Competition Day offers us an opportunity to share the latest information on competition law, exchange views and learn about the most interesting antitrust enforcement practices. Common efforts bring significant results of European importance: reduced roaming tariffs, new banking guidelines, opened proceedings in the energy sector are just a few tangible results of European competition authorities. It encourages us to move forward and even more effectively safeguard the principles of fair competition for the sake of public interest and the well being of each and everyone,” says Šarūnas Keserauskas, the Chairman of the Competition Council.

European Competition Day is a traditional conference run every six months by each Presidency of the EU Council. The event serves as a platform to exchange experience on competition law enforcement and competition policy developments for members of competition authorities, government representatives, national and the EU courts as well as business and academic communities.
