In Vilnius, Lithuanian Foreign Minister meets with NATO’s Secretary General to discuss alliance's agenda


On 6 September in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with NATO’s Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to discuss the situation in the Middle East, as well as issues related to NATO’s partnerships, participation in international operations, and other important items on the Alliance’s agenda.
The Foreign Minister and NATO’s Secretary General also discussed key objectives of improving the EU-NATO cooperation. According to the Foreign Minister, Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council is working actively to enhance practical cooperation between the EU and NATO, and to ensure closer coordination of activities.
“Let’s begin with practical work, let’s strengthen the EU-NATO cooperation through Centres of Excellence and other projects,” L.Linkevičius said.
The visit of Rasmussen to Vilnius also includes a meeting with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevičius, and the opening of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence together with the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
