Improvement of the EU mutual information system discussed at the meeting of national announcers

On 17-18 October meeting of national announcers of the European Union's mutual information system on social protection (MISSOC) – an important event in the field of social protection during the Lithuanian Presidency of the European Union Council - hosted in Vilnius.

“MISSOC is popular in Lithuania as well as throughout all the European Union and it is used as the main electronic database. Besides this information base, MISSOC is famous for its professional network of national announcers with whom you can quickly share relevant information and practice”, - said Giedrė Vitienė, Advisor to the Minister of Social Security and Labour.

Material of the parties delivered to the European Union‘s mutual information system on social protection was accessed, the key changes and trends in the social security in the national law of the parties involved and of the EU legislation were discuss during the event.

At the meeting the Croatian social security system, the recent actions and review of the changes in the European Commission, the further actions for the future cooperation on social policy network, other relevant issues were presented to the participants.

During the meeting, in addition to the MISSOC agenda affairs both the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU social program, the results achieved and the objectives aimed as well as the pension system in Lithuania and the reform of it were discussed. Round table discussion on the topic of the pension reform took place as well.

At each MISSOC meeting, the detailed analysis of the MISSOC tables is performed in order to make the material of different countries understandable and accurate; as well the same concepts should be used. This meeting focused on the table of the old age topic. In addition to this, these meetings deal with the technical issues related to the accumulation, representation and dissemination of the information.

Users in the electronic information database of the MISSOC can find not only descriptive or detailed information about social protection in a given country, but also can compare the systems of different countries, using structured tables. MISSOC network can be used by everyone for free, it can be found at www.missoc.org or http://ec.europa.eu/missoc.

MISSOC National speakers meetings are held every year, twice a year, at the time of the Council of the European Union, at the country holding the Presidency. The next MISSOC meeting is scheduled on May of the following year in Greece.

Appointed permanent announcers of the MISSOC of the Member countries, the European Commission and representatives of international organisations participated at the meeting in Vilnius.

This event of the Presidency of the Council is funded by the European Commission and Lithuanian Presidency funds.
