History of Lithuania will be available to international readers in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Polish. The e-version of the book is available on the internet for downloading free of charge. The book presents brief, clear, yet consistent account of uninterrupted political Lithuanian history from the establishment of the State until the entry into Trans-Atlantic structures in 2004.

The books in six languages are now being delivered to Lithuanian embassies and permanent representative offices around the world. During the presidency, History of Lithuania will be presented to participants and guests of meetings.
According to Vytautas Leškevičius, Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, “The Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is an excellent opportunity to introduce the rich and interesting history of Lithuania to the world. I hope that the e-version of the book will encourage young Lithuanians to explore this book on the internet or the smart phone. I am glad that the joint work by these four prominent historians portrays the position of Lithuania in both the old and modern history of Europe.”

Alfonsas Eidintas, professor and ambassador, professors Alfredas Bumblauskas, Antanas Kulakauskas, and Mindaugas Tamošaitis, doctor of history, are the authors of the History of Lithuania.

Professor Bumblauskas covers the period from the oldest times until the destruction of the Commonwealth of Two Nations in 1795. Professor Kulakauskas describes the period of Tsarist Russia and the national rebirth, while Professor Eidintas examines the rebirth of the Lithuanian State and its development in the inter-war period. Mr Tamošaitis, doctor of history, presents the complex period in Lithuanian history of the Soviet and Nazi occupations, the Holocaust, resistance to aggressors, and restoration of the State in 1990 and its return to the political European family.
The editorial board of the book includes academics from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University: professors Raimundas Lopata, Alvydas Jokubaitis, Vytautas Radžvilas and dr. Inga Vinogradnaitė.

The Lithuanian version of the History of Lithuania was presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30 August 2012. The book was published in six languages by Eugrimas publishing house on a commission by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The e-version of the book in Lithuanian and six other languages is available on the website of the presidency, www.eu2013.lt. Eugrimas publishing house together with PRODIGITA, distributor of e-publications, has placed the books on the international book search website www.ebooksbylanguage.com, thus providing the opportunity to download the book in any language free of charge to a tablet or smart phone.
