In presiding over the Council of the European Union, Lithuania seeks progress in the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform. The reform will increase opportunities for farmers to receive support, and will contribute to a more effective allocation of funds; furthermore, the funding procedure will be simplified. For Lithuanian farmers, this reform represents the harmonization of allowances with other EU countries. The reform will come into effect in 2015.

On 24 September, the EU's main institutions reached a final agreement regarding CAP reform. By the end of Lithuania's Presidency, the reform's legislative package will have to be adopted by the Council and Parliament.

Watch the video report for a brief overview of the reform.
