On 21st of September at the Ghent Museum of Fine Arts, Belgium, an exhibition consisting of 180 works by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis entitled "I Dream of Lithuania" will be opened. Among the works of the Lithuanian artist will be paintings, graphic works, drawings and photographs. All these exhibits have been brought from the National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania.

M. K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911) is the most prominent Lithuanian artist of the 20th century, being both a unique painter and also an exceptionally gifted composer. His creative period lasted for just over a decade but during that time M. K. Čiurlionis managed to create more than 400 musical works and paint more than 300 paintings.

The Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU provides the possibility to introduce foreign audiences to M. K. Čiurlionis’s creative work. One of the projects introducing the versatile art of M. K. Čiurlionis is the exhibition "I Dream of Lithuania" that will be opened in Ghent. The exhibition forms part of the Flemish festival taking place in Belgium.

The "I Dream of Lithuania" exhibition provides the opportunity to learn more about M. K. Čiurlionis’s creative world, which comprised artistic ideas of neo-romanticism, symbolism and art nouveau. The images in his paintings provoke the audible senses, and within their inherent characteristics is a peculiar synesthesia, most impressively revealed when revealing M. K. Čiurlionis's paintings in the spaces where his music is played.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition "I Dream of Lithuania" there will be a concert in which the Lithuanian pianist Petras Geniušas and the M. K. Čiurlionis String Quartet will play M. K. Čiurlionis’s compositions for the grand piano.

The exhibition “I Dream of Lithuania" in Ghent will be on display until December 15. Beyond this exhibition, M. K. Čiurlionis will be presented globally throughout the Lithuanian Presidency, as there are more events introducing his creative work in Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Japan and other countries around the world.
