Informal meetings of the EU Ministers of Defence takes place every 6 months in a presidency of the EU Council; the meeting is intended to informally discuss some key issues included in the Common, Security and Defence policy (hereinafter CSDP) agenda, including development of capabilities, military operations, partnerships, etc. The objective of the meeting is not merely an informal exchange of opinions on key issues of the CSDP, but also preparation for the Council on Foreign Affairs, scheduled in November in Brussels, which shall approve some key documents and the findings by the Council. The informal meeting of the EU Ministers of Defence in Vilnius shall also focus on the preparation for the European Summit scheduled in December, which shall involve a discussion on defence matters. Ms Ashton, High Representative of the EU, and Mr Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General, are both expected to attend the meeting of the EU Ministers of Defence in Vilnius.
