An expert level conference will be organized to discuss the role of culture in meeting the current social and economic challenges, the need for policy change, the corresponding public investment, and evidence both to support the case for culture and to measure the effectiveness of policy. This conference will present an opportunity for networking and exchange of views between various departments of policy making within governments of EU member states and EU institutions, most notably the European Commission (DG CULT, REGIO, EMPL) and the European Parliament. It will also engage the expert community. The conference will take stock of the latest developments in conceptualizing the role of culture within the ‘new narrative’ (Culture 3.0) and map the readiness of the EU 28 member states’ cultural policy to embrace a culture-led developmental agenda. The conference will examine the positive impact of the 2007-2013 programming and implementation cycle, and discuss culture-led development aspects during the programming of the 2014-2020 EU structural assistance.
