To mark Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, The History of Lithuania, which is a joint publication by ambassador and Professor Alfonsas Eidintas, Professors Alfredas Bumblauskas and Antanas Kulakauskas, and Doctor of Historical Sciences Mindaugas Tamošaitis, has been published in six foreign languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Polish.

The book will become a new and valuable source of information for foreign diplomats, politicians, civil servants, and everyone interested in the subject on Lithuania's political history from the establishment of the state till its accession to the EU and NATO in 2004.

It offers a clear and concise account of the period from the olden times to the partition of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795, the Tsarist Russia epoch, the national revival and Lithuania's subsequent independence, the country's political developments during the Interwar period, Soviet and Nazi occupations, Holocaust, the period of resistance against the aggressors and the restoration of the state in 1990, and Lithuania's subsequent return to the political family of Europe.

Having reached Lithuania's embassies and permanent representations across the globe, these books will be given to meeting participants and guests during Lithuania's Presidency,  and the free version in both Lithuanian and the six foreign languages is available here:
